RIBBON RUNS
Water Seeks It's Own Level
Solo show at Green Bean Visual Arts Gallery at Capitol Grounds Cafe, Montpelier VT, July 2017
Water seeks it's own level
Water seeks it's own level in the way we often seek ourselves...deep and knowing...waves growing...currents rolling...river flowing...we rise to meet what we seek.
This is a series of images that captures my own seeking...seeking to rise to my own level.
I work to achieve this concept by making outdoor installation art with ribbon and local waterways. The ribbon represents what I'm reaching for...to learn and understand all that I seek.
When the ribbon connects with the water it is drawn easily, effortlessly into the current, the bath, the well, were the seeking is held however the water sees fit. I find the water, more often than not is the perfect fit for how I’m needing to be held at that moment...taut by a strong current...womblike in the softness of a bath...regenerative yet contained movement within a well...wind and snow whipped clear as a bell.
The ribbon, the water and their sublime intersections remind me how I’m always held, what I seek is peace, and that is often much easier to feel, to let go, and be drawn than I think.

RIBBONS RUNS INSTALLATIONs
Ribbon Runs...is a new series of public installation art I'm creating to conceptualize the depth of our internal offerings and external connections.
I use a ten foot strip of nude colored ribbon and a 100 yard spool of cream colored ribbon to make this work.
With the ten foot strip I 'drop' the ribbon in unexpected places to witness unexpected parts of myself making their way out into the world. I observe the interaction and make art from there taking iphotographs and video to capture these reveals. The juxtaposition of this sensuous fluid ribbon placed in unlikely scenarios charms me to no end.
For a more grand, global, and community impact I use the 100 yard spool. I 'drop' the ribbon off bridges over spring fed rivers...using gravity to draw the ribbon to the water. Then the current of the water whisks the ribbon into its flow drawing it off the spool, extending in length as it's drawn downstream. I'm using the ribbon with water to specifically capture that feeling of being drawn...feeling connected to something greater than myself...as well as feeling all that's within me being draw out...that which needs to be healed is healed that which needs to shared and gifted becomes felt and seen in this process.
This work with these Ribbons draws out of me something unexpected and unknown, something new that I desire to see and feel over and over and over again.
