CHAIR SERIES
The Chair Series is a body of work that captures the act of following an artistic compulsion. I was charmed by this chair and compelled to use her as an object to represent myself within my artwork. This object, this chair, became a particularly meaningful metaphor throughout our exploration process. It fair to say I fell in love with her and all she represented as I was in turn falling in love with myself. The chair also became a transitional object of sorts, much like a child uses a blanket as an external representation of her connection to Mom to ease the developmental challenge of separation. This chair was an external representation of my relationship with myself that encouraged me to hold onto me during a very difficult period of separation and transition.
This chair and taking iphotos of her all over Central Vermont in my most favorite and sacred spaces brought me untold joy and happiness. She came along for the ride with me, to bring art, love and the artist out in me during a time when joy was hard to find. She and this body of work kept me in deep relationship with my reconstructing self, in communication with my resurrected self, and kept me listening to what I had to say.
My chair, my companion, my friend. This show is in honor of your beauty, your simplicity, and your wholeness. All you meant, and all you mirrored, is forever held in this body of work. Thank you.
